i dont have a flickr account...

i got an email today informing me that there is a flickr account and a person is pretending to be me on it. not just stealing my photos but saying they are me, they have joined groups and have a bunch of contacts.

so weird/ creepy.

i've contacted flickr and haven't heard back.

so i am trying to figure out what my next step is, i am thinking of starting a new family blog that is private and just making this one more of a photography and design blog.

i am sad that it has come to this.

has anything like this happened to you? any suggestions?

that is strange.

oh that is terrible :(
I would be so sad though if you made a private family blog. i have enjoyed following your blog tremendously, because your love for your two daughters are so amazingly macroscopically perceivable, and it really inspires me to be a wonderful mother (when i get married and have kids, that is)

I have heard of similar things but not had it happen to me... weirdos! make it hard for everyone

Amy,
That is just awful!
Someone really does have too much time on their hands. If you go to private I hope I can still view your blog as I love your photos and the updates on your girls!
I hope you and your family had a wonderful easter!

Oooh creepy! Although, I can't blame them for wanting to take credit for your amazing photography. :)

Sorry that's happening, it's so weird. Good luck sorting it out!

holy freaking weird. people are seriously messed up- i don't even understand why someone would do stuff like this. ugh. i would love to know if you start a family blog.

so only mildly weird stuff has happened to me- like someone is using my name as a gmail account. but that's probably someone who has the same name as me. haha!

that stinks and is totally weird. if you do a seperate private blog..could you please keep showing bits and pieces of your home on this one? i love your interior style!

kate said...

whaaaat?? how is that even possible? how awful. i found your blog through my friend alyson's blog and have loved your beautiful photography. hope you'll send out a request for emails if you decide to go private.

Oh - that's horrible!! Why would someone do that?

I can't say that it has happened to me, but one time I thought it had.

I went to a blog that had left a comment and I was greeted with a whole bunch of my photos! I was so annoyed, and was horrified that someone would do that!

And then after some digging I realised that it was a script that took my yahoo id (if I was logged in) and posted all my flickr photos - every person was greeted with their own photos, and only I saw my own.

Still, it was super frustrating! I don't like being duped like that.

Anyway, if it makes you feel better to go to a private blog, then by all means I say.

How strange! I'll be so disappointed if you decide to go private - I've loved your blog and all the pics of your beautiful home and family. :)

Amy, I am not sure if you know that I found your blog but I love reading it. Your pictures are amazing and I love reading your posts along with your sisters. I tried to email you a while ago but I never got a response. If you do go private, (which I understand) I hope you would invite me to read it. (Hope you remember me) Mindy

AWWW MAAAAN. I love looking at your blog. I am a total stranger though and do sometimes feel like I'm invading someone's privacy when I look at pictures of their day with their family or something. I have a blog (that probably gets a fraction of the traffic yours does) so I understand that it feels a little scary sometimes when you have pics of your kids and home and stuff.

I wonder if it's the same person that did it to your sis a while back!? So weird. Am I missing the point here? Is it just to recreate oneself or is there something more in this for people? It is really odd! Well, it will be sad to see a change, but I guess you have to make the best choice for yourself :( Good luck!

Amy, I just found your blog through my cousin's blog, and I love all of your amazing pictures and your adorable girls. I am so sad to hear that you might be going private when I just found your blog, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Some people are so creepy. I hope that if you do go private you might allow me to continue to follow your blog.
Montez

Side note: It's funny I was scrolling down reading all your posts and I saw that picture of you and Ann's 4th b-day, and it made me remember your tea party birthday I can't remember how old we were but I remember having it at your grandma's house and being all dressed up and thinking that the pink pen napkin rings were the coolest things ever. he hee It is funny the things we remember. Whenever I see your grandma I always ask how you girls are doing. It is so fun to see your little family.

That is so terrible. I LOVE looking at your blog...but if you need to go private that is understandable.

Sounds like someone is envious of you. Instead of looking to you for inspiration, they blatantly steal part of your identity. How sad and pitiful.

I am yet another "stranger" who somehow stumbled upon your blog. I love looking at your amazing photography and interior decorating skills. It would be sad to no longer see your talent and beautiful family, but I'd understand.

I wish you the best. <3

That is very creepy.

Someone got into my paypal account a few months back. They tries changing the banking, address, and personal information. That was scary, and was a long and annoying process.

Sorry and good luck!

Gosh look at all the love! I too have been a lurker (not stalker!) for a long time now. You photos are amazing, and like others have said, you inspire me to be a better Mommy. I go back and forth all the time about what to do with my blogs. I worry about my kids photos and sickos out there and I worry that other people will still my other photos. It's tricky. Just remember that you have to protect your babies first and foremost. Nothing else matters!

Hope it all gets straightened out!

People are so horrible. You would think that they would have better things to do with their time. I always put a logo or some form of text on my photos that go online. Picasa has a new feature that you can put a watermark on anything you export. It is quick and easy. Also maybe you could create a free flickr account and try to talk to the person. It might not help though. I had a friend that made screen shots of people using her images and she was able to take them to court over it. I am sorry this has happened to you.

Hi there! You don't know me, but I love to peak at your blog!

This is the grossest feeling ever.....I found out some people were stealing photos of my kids and using them as their own on their foreign facebook type site (called orkut). I was so so SO mad! I totally changed my blog, and emailed all my contacts the new blog name (going private seemed like a headache to me, and blogger only allows you to invite 100 people). It's been 6 months and no weirdies.....best of luck! the internet is scary:)

Elyse said...

Bummer, so weird this blog thing. I guess I started mine a few years ago and found your blog via Leah Wright's. Since then I have enjoyed your inspirational photography (I am so very amateur at photogging but I am determined to learn) I don't think it's a bad idea to go private at all, especially if you still share some of your less personal photos on a photo blog. I will be sad not too see your darling girls or your amazing home, but safety is so much more important.
Good luck! and sorry for the creepy-deepies that ruin all the fun.

I am so sorry this has happened. For my sake, I really, really, really hope you don't go private, but obviously it would be totally understandable if you did.

That is totally psycho, keep us posted, please.

This is SO creepy! And so utterly sad, as I have viewed your blog and loved it for so long.

I have heard of this happening occasionally, people will take blogs and steal posts and photos pretending it is their life. Ew.

Let us know if you go priv...would love to be invited. Praying flickr solves the problem. Hugs.

Gosh, I remember that happening to Ann...not sure what makes people want to do something like that. I hope if you go private I can get in on your list. I love keeping up with your family and looking at your beautiful photos!

Wren said...

This totally is scary! I'm a reader of your blog by way of LouandLee shopping;) Don't let the scary weirdos stop you from putting that awesomeness you have out into the world...Just be careful with super-personal info, like where you live or photos that could make it easily available...

Annnd I'd sue that Flickr Effer!

Wren

Hope you don't make your blog private! I look at it all the time and love seeing your creativity. I fell upon your blog from Robyns and just love your style. Sorry there are crazies out there but hope you keep your blog public!

I agree with so many others! I love your blog and am inspired by your creativity. I don't know you- but found your blog through a friend. if you go private- please consider allowing invites to your regular viewers. It is creepy what some folks will do- so i understand the need to protect yourself and family.
